Gallman Misses Cut At Knoxville News Sentinel Open

Farragut, Tenn. – Former USC Upstate golfer and Gaffney, S.C., native Josh Gallman had his stay in his first appearance on the PGA's Nationwide Tour event, carding a 77 in the second round of the Knoxville News Sentinel Open and missed the cut Friday afternoon at the Fox Den Country Club.
Gallman, who graduated from Upstate last May and turned pro later that month, had opened the tournament with a 2-under-par 70 on Thursday, but struggled to get anything going in the second round Friday. Although he hit 14 greens in regulation, he left himself with lengthy putts at times and couldn't really get anything to fall on makeable putts. He totaled 37 putts in the round.
He bogeyed three of his first four holes to fall to 1-over for the tournament, but got it back to even with a birdie at the par-4 14th (he began the round on hole No. 10). However, he made two more bogeys on his first nine and went out with a 4-over 40.
Gallman was much more solid on the final nine holes. He birdied two of his first five holes on the back, but a double bogey on the eighth hole, his 17th, sealed his fate and he finished with a 77.
Despite missing the cut, Gallman had a solid debut on the Nationwide Tour. It is the latest in a series of firsts for the rookie, He won his first professional tournament at the River Falls event on the Carolina Mountain Tour. He went on to win two more tour events on the CMT, finished second in his first event on the eGolf Tour and claimed two top 10 finishes on the Hooters Carolina Summer Series Tour. He qualified for the spot in the Knoxville News Sentinel Open by shooting 65 in a qualifying tournament on Monday, securing a spot in his first major tour event.
