
Spartans Stung by Yellow Jackets in Season Opener

ATLANTA, Ga. – The USC Upstate men's tennis squad, competing in its first match of the spring season, fell at Georgia Tech, 7-0, on Sunday morning at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.
The Yellow Jackets, ranked 23rd in the Campbell/ITA Pre-season poll, improves to 1-0, while the Spartans, preseason number 60, fall to 0-1.
The Spartans fell in each singles match in straight sets, with newcomer Matias Di Pasquale giving the Spartans the best effort on Sunday. Di Pasquale lost the first set by a score of 6-1 but put up a valiant effort in the second set before falling 6-4 to 48th ranked Juan Spir.
The Spartans faced a total of three top 100 players during its singles action and a top 10 doubles team in no. 8 Juan Spir/Kevin King.
Upstate will return to action on Friday, Jan. 28 when it travels to Knoxville, Tenn., for the ITA Kickoff.
