Goins 2-Under at Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational

Spartanburg, S.C. – Freshman Adam Goins continues to lead the USC Upstate men's golf team, opening the first day of the Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational at the Country Club of Spartanburg with rounds of 72 and 70 to finish the day at 2-under-par and in 12th place.
Goins (Gaffney, S.C.) and the rest of the players will finish the tournament with 18 holes on Tuesday. Goins has had a solid spring and has assumed the lead on the course for the Spartans in the last three tournaments. He opened the day with an even-par 72 and finished the day with a 2-under 70 to finish tied for 12th heading into Tuesday's final round.
Upstate opened the tournament with a 299 and lowered its score by three strokes to post a 296 in the second round. The Spartans are 13th in the 15-team field, finishing the day two strokes ahead of Presbyterian College and 10 shots ahead of High Points. They are within 10 strokes of eighth place.
Richmond opened the tournament with a 279 and closed with a 284 to take the lead with a 563 total. Last year's champion, East Tennessee State, is tied for second with fellow A-Sun foe Campbell at 574 and is followed by Charleston Southern (578), Samford (580), Wofford (581), Gardner-Webb (584), Radford (585), Appalachian State (585), Longwood (587), Elon (590), Stetson (591), Upstate (595), Presbyterian (597) and High Point (605).
Nelson Dickson (Spartanburg, S.C.) opened with a solid 73 and closed with a 78. He is the second-lowest Spartan in the tournament with a 151 total. Brad Sill (Spartanburg, S.C.) struggled to post a 79 in the first round, but rallied in the second to fire a 73 in the second round of the day. Tyler Comer (Pacolet Mills, S.C.) also lowered his score from the first round to the second, shooting 78 in the first and 75 in the second. Matthew Hopper finished with rounds of 76 and 82.
Four players – Jacobo Pastor (Charleston Southern), Vaita Guillaume (Campbell), Kristopher Gray (Gardner-Webb) and Mark Joye (Wofford) - each opened with a 5-under-par score and are tied for the tournament lead heading into Tuesday's final round.
