
Upstate Women's Basketball Releases 2011-12 Schedule

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's basketball team and head coach Tammy George released the 2011-12 schedule today with a quartet of premier non-conference road games on the docket against North Carolina, Vanderbilt, Auburn and Duke.
The Spartans open the season at home against North Greenville Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. They then head to Chapel Hill to take on North Carolina Nov. 13, which is followed by a trip to Vanderbilt Nov. 16.
The team heads to Radford Nov. 19, before returning to the Hodge Center for a 7 p.m. contest Nov. 21 against Norfolk State. The squad then hits the road for games at Auburn Nov. 27 and UNC Asheville Nov. 30.
Upstate kicks off December with its only home game for the month, taking on Presbyterian Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. The team starts a stretch of five road games at Duke Dec. 11, before heading south to the Sunshine State for a pair of league games.
"Our schedule consists of some very tough non-conference teams as we travel to play schools from the ACC and the SEC, which we hope will help prepare us as we head into our conference schedule," George said. "It is most definitely the most challenging schedule yet for our program in the D-I era."
The Spartans open Atlantic Sun Conference competition at Stetson Dec. 17, while squaring off with another conference foe Dec. 19 at Florida Gulf Coast. They round out five-straight road games with a non-conference match-up at Coastal Carolina Dec. 29 and return to league play at ETSU Dec. 31.
Upstate has a three-game homestand the beginning of January, hosting Western Carolina (Jan. 2), Kennesaw State (Jan. 5) and Mercer (Jan. 7). The Spartans' conference home-opener is Jan. 5 against Kennesaw State.
The squad travels back to Florida, taking on Jacksonville and North Florida Jan. 12 and 14, respectively, before returning to the Hodge for three-straight A-Sun games. Upstate faces Lipscomb Jan. 19, Belmont Jan. 21 and ETSU Jan. 28.
The Spartans take a quick tour of the Peach State, traveling to Kennesaw State Feb. 2 and Mercer Feb. 4. They return home for two games against North Florida Feb. 9 and Jacksonville Feb. 11, before going to Nashville, Tenn., to take on Belmont Feb. 16 and Lipscomb Feb. 18.
Upstate wraps up the regular season at the Hodge Center, hosting two conference opponents in Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson, Feb. 23 and 25, respectively.
