Both teams enter the season opener with strengths they will look to carry over from a year ago. USC Upstate averaged 57.8 points per game while pulling down 41.4 rebounds per contest, nearly seven more rebounds per game than Wake Forest. The Spartans also held a slight edge in three-point shooting, connecting on 34.9 percent of their attempts compared to the Demon Deacons' 33.3 percent.
Wake Forest, meanwhile, averaged 65.2 points per game and showed an advantage in offensive efficiency, shooting 44.3 percent from the field. The Demon Deacons also averaged 16.8 assists and seven steals per game, compared to Upstate's 11.8 assists and 5.0 steals.
At the free-throw line, the Spartans held the edge at 69.4 percent, while Wake Forest finished at 67.1 percent. Defensively, the teams were nearly even in blocks, with Upstate averaging 3.3 per game and Wake Forest recording 3.2.
The numbers point to an intriguing matchup: Upstate's strength on the glass and perimeter shooting against a Wake Forest team that scored more efficiently and created more opportunities through assists and steals.
The Spartans and Demon Deacons will meet for the second time in program history when they open the 2026-27 season on November 2. Wake Forest claimed the only previous matchup, earning a 58-51 victory in 2007.
Following Monday's season opener, the Spartans return to Spartanburg for their home opener against Johnson on Wednesday, November 4. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the G.B. Hodge Center.
