
Lowe Paces Spartans in FInal Round of Terrier Intercollegiate

Spartanburg, S.C. – Freshman and Spartanburg native Brittany Lowe led the USC Upstate women's golf team on the day, carding a 77 in the final round of the Terrier Intercollegiate Tuesday afternoon at the Country Club of Spartanburg. The Spartans finished eighth in the tournament.
Lowe, a graduate of Dorman High School and playing in her first collegiate tournament, rebounded from an 86 in the first round on Monday to cut nine strokes off of her score Tuesday. She finished with a 77 to finish as the low Spartan on the day, three strokes better than team leader Rachel Lewis (So., Llanishen, Wales).
Upstate finished the tournament with a 325 on Tuesday and a 36-hole total of 648. The Spartans finished ahead of The Citadel by 12 strokes. Todd Lawton, now in his seventh season as the head coach of the program, counted scores of 77, 80, 81 and 87.
Newberry placed three players in the top 10 and won the tournament with a 602 total. The Wolves finished two strokes ahead of Elon (604) and Wofford (604). Gardner-Webb finished fourth at 614 and was followed by Presbyterian College (615), High Point (617), Appalachian State (619), Upstate (648) and The Citadel (660). Appalachian State's Yue Xu and Wofford's Tarah Taylor tied for medalist honors with 145 totals.
Lewis finished the final round with an 80 and a 36-hole total of 157 (+13). She was the low Spartan in the tournament and finished tied for 25th. Amanda Hall (So., Tega Cay, S.C.) carded an 81 on Tuesday and finished tied for 35th with a 160 total. Lowe's round on Tuesday helped her move into the third spot on the team with a 163 total. She finished tied for 42nd.
Taylor Pleier (So., Spartanburg, S.C.) closed with an 87 on Tuesday and finished tied for 46th with a 168 total, while freshman Kristi Goodman (Easley, S.C.) finished with a 95 on Tuesday and a 183 total.
Upstate will be back in action next Monday and Tuesday, heading to Waynesville, N.C., to play in the Great Smokies Intercollegiate at the Waynesville Inn and Golf Club.
