Revell Continues Run at Caribbean Intercollegiate

Ponce, Puerto Rico – USC Upstate's Daniel Revell continued his magical run in his first collegiate tournament, firing a second-straight 71 Tuesday afternoon and stands second individually heading into the final round of the Caribbean Intercollegiate.
Revell (Roswell, Ga.) handled the conditions and the competition to shoot his second 71 of the tournament and stands at 2-under-par and in second place. He trails tournament leader Pat Wilson from St. John's by five strokes.
"Daniel has been nothing short of excellent," said Upstate head coach Todd Lawton. "He had a bad start again today, but just kept grinding and stayed in the moment. He has no expectations and used his nervous energy to focus. I'm so excited he is playing well and his smile tells the story.
"He wants to compete and has been a bright spot on and off the course at this tournament. At home he worked so hard on a grip change recently and new chip shot setup and routine. I am thrilled it is paying off."
Revell is playing as an individual in the tournament. Upstate could have used him in the lineup. The Spartans finished the second round with a 302 and stands sixth in the tournament with a 593 total.
St. John's will take the lead into the final round with a 572 total. They lead the tournament by a stroke over Rollins (573). Old Dominion is third at 579 and is followed by Laval (588), IPFW (592) and Upstate (593).
"Not good, it's that simple," said Lawton. "As a whole, our starting five didn't execute shots or recover from mistakes. At the level of talent each of these guys possess, the difference is between the ears. Playing for score is what golf is all about and we didn't today. No success in the past guarantees another in the future. You have to be ready every round. "
Brian Horton (Boiling Springs, S.C.) finished the day with a 787 and stands tied for 12th in the tournament with a 147 total. Adam Goins (Gaffney, S.C.) carded a 75 Tuesday and stands tied for 17th at 148. Matthew Hopper (Gaffney, S.C.) turned in the lowest round of the day for the scores that count toward the team scores, shooting 73. He is tied for 20th with a 149 total. Tyler Comer (Spartanburg, S.C.) shot 77 on Tuesday and is tied for 20th with Hopper. Brad Sill (Spartanburg, S.C.) finished the round with an 83 and is 34th in the tournament.
