
Three Spartans Set for ITA Carolina Regional

Spartanburg, S.C. – With three fall tournaments under their belt, three members of the USC Upstate men's tennis team will travel to Cary, N.C., to face some of the top players in the states of North Carolina and South Carolina this weekend at the ITA Carolina Regional from the Cary Tennis Park.
Competition kicks off Thursday morning at 8:30 a.m. with the singles draw and is followed Friday at 9:00 a.m. with the beginning of the doubles draw.
USC Upstate senior Yvon Haessig opens competition for the Spartans when he faces Charlie Ghriskey of College of Charleston Thursday at 8:30 a.m. Sophomore Ramon Simonetti follows at 10 a.m. with a matchup against 16th-seeded Robbie Mudge of NC State. Senior Gonzalo Blanco wraps up first round competition for Upstate with a 12 p.m. match against 15th-seeded Brett Clark of North Carolina.
Blanco and Haessig will also compete in doubles play and will battle Max Kan and Aws Laaribi of Wake Forest Friday at 10 a.m. and will take on Jimmy Dougherty and Randy Phillips of UNCG should they advance. The sixth-seeded duo from UNCG earned a first round bye and will await the winner for a 12 p.m. match on Friday.
