
Spartans Conclude Competition at ITA Carolina Regional

Cary, N.C. – With only doubles matches left on the docket, the USC Upstate men's tennis team dropped its lone match and has completed its competition at the ITA Carolina Regional from the Cary Tennis Park.
Upstate's doubles team of seniors Yvon Haessig and Gonzalo Blanco was beaten 8-5 by Max Kan and Aws Laaribi of Wake Forest in the round of 64.
Earlier in the tournament, Haessig competed in the main singles draw on Thursday and turned in a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 victory over Charlie Ghriskey of the College of Charleston to advance into the second round. Haessig, however, was later defeated by Pedro Dumont of Wake Forest by a final score of 6-4, 6-2 and was eliminated from the tournament.
In other singles action on Thursday, sophomore Ramon Simonetti fell 0-6, 6-4, 3-6 to 15th-seeded Robbie Mudge of NC State, and senior Gonzalo Blanco dropped a 3-6, 0-6 decision to No. 14 seed Brett Clark of North Carolina.
Upstate returns to action Oct. 25-27 when the Spartans complete their fall schedule with a trip to Elon, N.C., to take part in the Elon Invitational.
