
Two Spartans Advance on Day One of Elon Fall Invitational

Elon, N.C. – The opening day of the Elon Fall Invitational saw two USC Upstate men's tennis players advance in the main draw of their respective flights Friday afternoon at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
Ramon Simonetti was victorious in his A1 Singles flight match in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 against UNC Asheville's Thomas Orestis-Panoulas. He will face off against Steven Patrick of Winthrop at 11 a.m. Saturday.
Carlos Tajes moved on in the main draw of the B1 Singles flight as he defeated Eduardo Ugalde of North Carolina Wesleyan in straight sets 7-5, 6-0. He will face Ismael Sanchez of Elon at 12:30 Saturday afternoon.
Jamie Yates received a bye in the B2 Singles flight and takes on North Carolina Central's Fabrice George tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.
In the A1 Singles flight, Pedro Carvalho fell to Thomas Cook of Georgia State 4-6, 0-6, and will go up against Daniel Mack of UNC Greensboro in the A1 Singles Backdraw Saturday morning at 11 a.m. Rajanvir Dharni dropped a three-set decision, 6-3, 3-6, 2-6, to Elon's Chris Humphreys in the A2 Singles flight, and will now face Alex Croker of UNC Asheville in the backdraw Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
In doubles action, Tajes and Simonetti were victorious 8-7 (7) against Tennessee Tech's Alberto Esteban and Vasily Eremeev in the A1 Doubles flight. The duo advances in the main draw to take on UNCG's Mack and James Dougherty tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. Carvalho and Dharni fell in their A2 Doubles flight match with UNC Asheville's John Schubel and Daniel Kripak 8-5, and will now face Ugalde and Panayot Kusidi of N.C. Wesleyan at 9 a.m. Saturday morning.
