Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's basketball team makes its 2013-14 home debut Monday evening at 7 p.m. when the Spartans welcome Bob Jones University to the Hodge Center.
Upstate enters play following a successful showing last week at the Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament in Kent, Ohio. The Spartans opened the event with an 83-74 victory over Niagara led by the 25 points from senior Torrey Craig. In the following game against tournament host Kent State, Upstate nearly managed to overcome 18 made three-pointers by the Golden Flashes, but were ultimately beaten 79-78 as a free throw in the final seconds was the difference.
The Spartans closed the tournament with an impressive 72-58 victory over Western Carolina, as Ricardo Glenn scored a season-high 17 points and was 7-for-9 from the field. Fred Miller scored a career-high 13 points, while Jodd Maxey and Ty Greene finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
USC Upstate and Bob Jones University will be meeting for the first time when the two schools tipoff Monday night. The Spartans are 8-3 all-time in home openers under head coach Eddie Payne and have won their last three, winning by an average of 27.0 points per game.
