Game 12: USC Upstate (6-5) vs. Charlotte (7-3)
Saturday | 12.21.2013 | 7:00 p.m. EST
Charlotte, N.C. | Halton Arena
Spartanburg, S.C. – On the heels of one of the biggest wins in school history, the USC Upstate men's basketball team looks to ride that momentum when it faces Charlotte Saturday evening at 7 p.m. from Halton Arena.
Upstate (6-5) enters play coming off a 74-68 win at South Carolina on Thursday to mark the first win in school history over the Gamecocks and over a school from the Southeastern Conference. In addition, Upstate joins Mercer as the only two schools in the Atlantic Sun since 2005 to beat a team from the SEC and the ACC in the same season. Upstate knocked off Virginia Tech earlier this year in Blacksburg, Va.
Spartan senior forward Ricardo Glenn tied a career-high with 21 points to go along with 14 rebounds and five assists against South Carolina. Fellow senior Torrey Craig added 13 points and six rebounds, while juniors Ty Greene and Fred Miller scored 10 points, respectively.
Charlotte is coming off a 106-62 setback at Florida State Tuesday evening. Despite the loss, the 49ers own a 7-3 record that includes wins over Kansas State and Michigan. Charlotte opened their season with an 80-75 home win over A-Sun foe ETSU.
USC Upstate and Charlotte will be meeting on the hardwood for the first time when the two teams tipoff Saturday evening. Despite never facing the 49ers, Upstate enters play with a 4-4 all-time record against teams from Conference USA. The Spartans are 3-0 all-time against Florida Atlantic and 1-1 against UT San Antonio. Upstate and UT San Antonio faced off twice last season with each team winning on its home floor.
