Spartans Fall to North Florida in A-Sun Action

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team dropped its second consecutive Atlantic Sun Conference match to open league play Saturday afternoon, falling 6-1 to the University of North Florida at the Upstate Tennis Complex.
The match was originally scheduled to start at 10 a.m., but due to inclement weather covering the southeast region first serve was tossed up at nearly 5 p.m.
North Florida (10-4, 3-1 A-Sun) captured the first point of the day, winning two of the three doubles matches to take the early lead.
The Ospreys carried the momentum over into singles play, winning five of the six matches to pick up a 6-1 victory.
Matthias Kidler continued to stay hot at No. 1 singles, picking up the only point of the day for the Spartans (6-8, 0-2 A-Sun) with a straight set victory.
Kidler and Ramon Simonetti earned a victory at No. 2 doubles, but Upstate dropped the remaining two matches to fall in doubles play.
Upstate will now hit the road and travel to the Sunshine State for a March 28 showdown with FGCU, before taking on Stetson on March 30.
