Spartans Finish Day One of ITA Carolina Regional

Cary, N.C. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team completed the first day of the USTA/ITA Carolina Regional Thursday afternoon from the Cary Tennis Park.
Senior Viktor Selander fell to No. 13 seed Robbie Mudge of NC State 6-4, 6-3 in his opening match before dropping a 6-2, 7-6 (5) decision to Steven Billington of Campbell in the consolation round.
Junior Ramon Simonetti fell 6-0, 6-0 to No. 16 seed Jack Murray of North Carolina in the first round to set up a match with Jonathan O'Neil of Campbell in the consolation bracket. O'Neill would go on to record a 7-6 (3), 6-2 victory to advance.
Selander and Simonetti will continue action Friday in doubles play as the duo will take on Fernando Sala and Daffra Sanon of Clemson at 11:30 a.m.
