Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team wraps up its four-match road swing this weekend when the Spartans take on North Florida Saturday at 2 p.m. and Georgia Southern Sunday at 2 p.m.
Upstate secured road wins at Lipscomb and Northern Kentucky last weekend to move to 2-2 in conference play with four league matches remaining. The Spartans won the first four points against Lipscomb en route to a 6-1 victory over the Bisons. Upstate capped the weekend with a 5-2 victory at Northern Kentucky to claim its third win in its last five matches.
Senior Yvon Haessig was a perfect 4-0 for the Spartans last week and was recognized as the Atlantic Sun Player of the Week for his performance. Haessig was part of a doubles team that clinched the deciding point in both matches, and also turned in the match-clinching singles victory over his opponent from Lipscomb.
Haessig became the first Spartan to be named A-Sun Player of the Week since Ramiro Blanco earned the award during the 2011 season.
North Florida enters the weekend having won five straight matches following a 5-2 victory over Stetson in its last outing. The Ospreys are 2-0 in A-Sun play and haven't lost a match since a Feb. 28 setback to Winthrop.
Georgia Southern has lost five consecutive matches and has not won since March 7 when the Eagles defeated Davidson 4-3. The Eagles are just 3-14 overall and are 1-6 at home.
