Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team ushers in the 2014 fall season this weekend when the Spartans host their annual USC Upstate Fall Classic from the USC Upstate Tennis Complex.
Competition begins Friday at 1 p.m. and will feature regional foes Furman, Wofford, UNC Asheville, Kennesaw State and Presbyterian. The tournament will continue all day Saturday and conclude Sunday afternoon.
"We are excited to be hosting this tournament once again, and our team is ready to play and get the fall season started," Upstate head coach Oliver Trittenwein said. "We have a good field of competition participating again this season, and the interesting part about that is it will give us a good look at some of the teams we will be facing again in the spring. This is also a great opportunity for our newcomers to get their feet wet and get a better feel for college tennis."
Upstate newcomers Felix Ewers and Matt Bennion are scheduled to compete in the doubles green draw Friday at 1 p.m. and will face Andrew Graham and Patrick Longest of Wofford. Jamie Yates and John Giakoumakis will receive a bye in the first round and battle Joel Roberts and Lukas Luckemeier of Presbyterian at approximately 4 p.m.
The doubles white draw will feature Pedro Carvalho and Rajanvir Dharni taking on Alex Pena and Drew Wendel of Kennesaw State at 1 p.m., while second-seeded Ramon Simonetti and Viktor Selander received a bye and will play their first match at approximately 4 p.m.
