Spartanburg, S.C. – Following a week off from competition, the USC Upstate men's tennis team continues its fall schedule this weekend when the Spartans travel to Davidson, N.C., to take part in the Davidson Invitational from the Covington Tennis Courts.
Competition begins Saturday at 10 a.m. and will feature Davidson, USC Upstate, Charlotte and Appalachian State. The tournament will be an individual format with eight singles flights and four doubles flights and will feature a singles-doubles-singles format on Saturday. The teams will play a doubles-singles-doubles format on Sunday beginning at 11 a.m.
"We are looking forward to having the opportunity to compete against some quality teams from our region," USC Upstate head coach Oliver Trittenwein said. "We had a successful home tournament two weeks ago, so hopefully we can build off that and see how much we have improved over the course of this weekend."
In its first tournament of the fall, Upstate captured three titles at the USC Upstate Fall Classic earlier this month. Second-seeded Viktor Selander went 3-0 in the singles green draw to claim the individual title, while freshman Felix Ewers worked his way back through the singles black back draw to win the championship.
Selander and partner Ramon Simonetti were victorious in three straight matches in the doubles white draw to earn the title.
