
Upstate Knocks Off Appalachian State at Davidson Invitational

Davidson, N.C. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team turned in a 4-3 victory over Appalachian State Sunday afternoon on the final day of the Davidson Invitational from the Covington Tennis Courts.
The Spartans started the match by claiming the doubles point following victories from the No. 1 and No. 3 positions to jump out to an early 1-0 lead. Ramon Simonetti and Jamie Yates turned in an 8-6 victory over Oliver Casey and Zach Bost at No. 1 before Pedro Carvalho and Rajanvir Dharni secured an 8-5 win over Steve Lake and Jack Maddocks at No. 3.
Simonetti posted a 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 over Casey at the No. 1 singles position to earn a point for the Spartans, while Yates defeated Bost 6-4, 6-0 at No. 2 to collect another point for Upstate.
Matt Bennion also registered a point for Upstate following his 6-2, 6-1 win over Lake at the No. 6 position.
Upstate continues its fall schedule Oct. 10-12 when the Spartans travel to Charlotte, N.C., to take part in the 49ers Invitational hosted by Charlotte.
