
Former Spartan Ty Greene Drafted by Delaware 87ers in NBA D-League Draft

Spartanburg, S.C. – Former USC Upstate guard Ty Greene was selected by the Delaware 87ers with the 43rd overall pick of the 2015 NBA Developmental League Draft on Saturday afternoon.
Greene, a native of Knoxville, Tenn., was the fifth pick of the third round and one of four former A-Sun men's basketball players to be selected in the draft.
"I would like to thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for this opportunity," said Greene. "All of my coaches and teammates at Upstate are the main reason I get to experience this amazing honor of being a professional basketball player."
The 2015 Lou Henson National Player of the Year and A-Sun Player of the Year recipient recently wrapped up a standout career at Upstate that saw the program compete in its first-ever A-Sun Tournament Championship game last season. Along with the Lou Henson and A-Sun honors, Greene earned numerous accolades during his senior season including Honorable Mention AP All-America, NABC All-District First Team and unanimous First Team A-Sun All-Conference.
Greene was the A-Sun Freshman of the Year in 2011-12 and currently ranks fourth all-time in Spartan history in scoring with 1,884 points. He also ranks second in three-point field goals made, three-point field goals attempted, free throws made, free throws attempted and games started; fourth in field goals made, field goals attempted and games played; and fifth in field goals made and steals.
He finished his career averaging 14.7 points per game to tie him for 11th at Upstate with former Spartan Charleston Long (2003-05). Greene played in 128 games during his four-year career and logged 119 starts. He holds the Upstate Division I era record for most points in a game with 39 which came on Jan. 31, 2015 at North Florida.
"Ty is certainly going to be a good and productive professional," said USC Upstate head coach Eddie Payne. "He has a chance to showcase his skills on the professional level. We wish him the best."
The Delaware 87ers are an affiliate of the NBA's Philadelphia 76ers. The team begins its 2015-16 season on Saturday, Nov. 14 against the Grand Rapids Drive in Walker, Mich.
