
Upstate Heads South this Weekend to Face FGCU, Stetson

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's soccer team concludes its six-match road trip this weekend by traveling to the state of Florida for a pair of A-Sun matches at Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson.
Upstate begins its weekend Friday evening at 7 p.m. in Fort Myers, Fla. against Florida Gulf Coast before heading up to face Stetson Sunday at 1 p.m. in DeLand, Fla. Fans can follow the action on www.upstatespartans.com via live stats. Friday's match at Florida Gulf Coast is being televised on A-Sun.TV while the contest at Stetson will be streamed on www.gohatters.com.
The Spartans fell to 2-9-1 overall and 1-1 in the A-Sun last Saturday with a 2-1 loss at Lipscomb. Rachel Baylor notched her third goal of the season for Upstate while Caroline Keener dished out one assist. Ellen Bright finished with six saves.
Bright leads the conference this season with 81 saves and is third with a .810 save percentage. The senior also ranks seventh nationally in total saves and 20th in saves per game. Kate Winegarner has recorded a team-high four goals and 10 points to sit tied for sixth in the league in both categories. Baylor is tied for 10th in goals scored, while Kenzie Major and Haley Gethin are tied for fourth and ninth, respectively, in assists.
Florida Gulf Coast is currently 6-5-2 on the season and 1-0-1 in conference play. Stetson has an overall record of 7-5 and is 1-1 against A-Sun opponents. The Spartans trail 7-0-1 in the all-time series to both Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson.
Upstate returns to County University Soccer Stadium next weekend (Oct. 16-18) as it hosts Jacksonville and North Florida.
