
Upstate Starts Three-Game Road Trip Monday at Navy

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's basketball team begins a stretch of three straight games away from the Hodge Center Monday evening as it heads to Annapolis, Md. to face the Navy Midshipmen at 7 p.m. in the second meeting this season between the two teams.
Upstate (2-9) is coming off a 70-58 victory on Friday evening over North Greenville in Spartanburg. Mike Cunningham led all players with a game-high 17 points, falling just one shy of tying his career-high, on 5-of-8 shooting including a 4-of-7 mark from three. Marvin Smith scored 14 points while grabbing a team-high seven rebounds along with Malik Moore, who also tied his career-high in rebounds. Jure Span dished out five assists and added a career-high three blocks.
In the first meeting this season, Navy defeated the Spartans 67-55 on Nov. 19 in their home opener. Deion Holmes finished the game with 18 points to lead Upstate offensively. Michael Buchanan contributed six rebounds while Josh Cuthbertson had three assists.
The Midshipmen (8-3) are playing their first home game since defeating Goucher 76-47 on Nov. 22. Navy is under the direction of fifth-year head coach Ed DeChellis, who is 41-92 during his tenure in Annapolis and 260-323 in 20 seasons of coaching. Shawn Anderson leads the Midshipmen in scoring with 12.5 points per game while Jace Hogan chips in 12.3 per contest. Hogan also leads the team in rebounding with 5.9 per game.
Navy holds a 1-0 lead in the all-time series over the Spartans following the 12-point victory earlier this season. Upstate and the Midshipmen are meeting for the first time in Annapolis.
