
Spartans Test Stetson, Florida Gulf Coast to Open A-Sun Play

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team opens Atlantic Sun Conference play this week when the Spartans host Stetson Thursday at 10 a.m. and Florida Gulf Coast Saturday at 2 p.m. from the USC Upstate Tennis Complex.
Spartan senior Viktor Selander enters play tied for the team lead with junior Ramon Simonetti with five singles victories. Junior Jamie Yates ranks second on the team with three victories.
In doubles play, Selander and Yates have turned in a 3-1 overall record playing together primarily from the No. 2 position. Newcomers Matt Bennion and Ignacio Garrido have played exclusively from the No. 3 position and own a 4-1 overall record.
"We are excited to be starting conference play against two of the top teams in our league," USC Upstate head coach Oliver Trittenwein said. "We have put in a lot of hard work over the past few months to get ready for this point in the season."
