Jones, Kountourogiannis Lead Upstate at ASUN Championships

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's and women's cross country teams scored a fourth and seventh place finish at the ASUN Championships on Saturday morning held at the Milliken Research Center. The men finished with 114 points while the women finished with 184 points.
"I feel like both teams ran well today," head coach Carson Blackwelder said. "Dorian went out with the pack and did a great job sticking with it to best his personal-best by 30 seconds. Theodore recorded a personal-best by nine seconds and earned All-Conference after just missing out in previous seasons. We finished about where I thought we would."
Noteworthy
- Dorian Jones earned Second Team All-Conference honors with a team-leading eighth place run.
- Theodore Kountourogiannis also earned Second Team All-Conference laurels with a 14th place finish.
- This is the first season since 2012 that the Spartans have had multiple All-Conference runners on the men's team. Jones and Kountourogiannis are the seventh and eighth different runners to earn ASUN All-Conference honors, joining Griffin Eubanks, Gilbert Kemboi, Davey Dennison, Christian Ritacco, Cameron Thomas and Ross Oden.
- Essence Jackson was the top finisher for the women's team in her final home race as she crossed the finish line in 37th place.
- For the men, Jones, Kountourogiannis, Ereck Lewis and Abraham Hernandez each finished with a new personal-best time. On the women's side, Jackson, Leah Jostes, Haley McCoy, Fatima Pedroza and Storm-Alexis Gandy recorded a new personal-best time.
- North Florida was the men's champion while Lipscomb claimed the women's title.
- North Florida's Nick Morken won the men's race while North Florida's Eden Meyer won the women's race. Meyer's time of 16:58.53 was the second-fastest in course history.
