Upstate Opens Play at Jacksonville Classic

Jacksonville, Fla. – The USC Upstate women's golf team finished the first day of the Jacksonville Classic in a tie for 13th place after shooting a combined score of 619 from the par 72, 6051-yard Marsh Landing Country Club.
Upstate concluded the first day tied for 13th place with Florida Atlantic following rounds of 315 and 304. The Spartans currently sit two strokes back of Longwood in 12th place.
Freshman Pan Paksanont leads Upstate after carding rounds of 73 and 74 to sit tied for 12th place at 147. Her first round score of 73 tied for the lowest of the day for the Spartans along with Payton Culler. Culler is the second highest Upstate golfer in the standings, tied for 43rd place, after beginning her day with a first round 80 to sit at 153 for the tournament.
The Spartans also counted scores of 155 (80-75) by Anna Chanthaphaeng, 164 (82-82) by Sidney Dermody and 169 (85-84) by Allie Gennaula. Chanthaphaeng sits two strokes back of Culler in a tie for 47th place. Dermody and Gennaula round out the standings for Upstate in 69th and 72nd places, respectively.
Daytona State leads the Jacksonville Classic following action on the first day with a 578 and is 12 strokes ahead of second place Nova Southeastern. On the individual leaderboard, Daytona State's Jiwon Jeon leads teammates Kendall Johnson and Grace St. Germain by one stroke at 1-under 143.
The final round of the Jacksonville Classic will tee off at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.
