Upstate Wraps up Fall Schedule at Seahawk Fall Invite

Wilmington, N.C. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team concluded its fall season last weekend after completing play at the three-day Seahawk Fall Invite hosted by UNC Wilmington at the UNCW Courts.
Overall, Upstate posted a 12-10 singles record over the weekend and went 7-5 in doubles competition. Individually, the Spartans had five players post a team-high two victories in Fernando Bernardes, Lenhard Haupt, Francisco Neto, Tomas Venere and Matt Bennion. In doubles play, the combination of Haupt and Felix Ewers went undefeated with a 3-0 record.
Upstate was one of five teams competing over the weekend along with UNC Wilmington, Boston College, Richmond and Virginia Tech.
The Spartans began the weekend on Friday by winning six of their seven singles matches and split four doubles contests. Ewers, Bernardes, Haupt, Venere, Bennion and Ankush Arora all earned singles victories with three matches going into the third set. Upstate also won two doubles matches with Ewers and Haupt, and Bennion and Venere picking up victories.
On Saturday, the Spartans collected five more singles wins from Bernardes, Haupt, Neto, Venere and Bennion. Ewers and Haupt remained undefeated in doubles competition, and also saw Bernardes and Venere record a victory.
The final day of competition on Sunday saw Upstate win three doubles matches from Ewers and Haupt, Arora and Neto, and Venere and Ignacio Garrido. In singles play, Neto earned a three-set victory to close out the weekend.
The Spartans begin their 2017 season on Wednesday, Jan. 25 on the road at Presbyterian College. Upstate opens its home schedule on Friday, Feb. 3 at 2 p.m. against Wofford.
