
Kountourogiannis, Jones Named to ASUN All-Academic Team

ASUN Men's Cross Country All-Academic Team
LakePoint, Ga. - USC Upstate senior Theodore Kountourogiannis and sophomore Dorian Jones were named to the ASUN Men's Cross Country All-Academic Team, league officials announced this afternoon. Both student-athletes were unanimous selections to the team.
"Both Dorian and Theo have been a great example of student-athletes," head coach Carson Blackwelder said. "They are performing at high levels in the classroom and on the cross country course."
Kountourogiannis is an English major from Niagara Falls, Ontario with a 3.71 GPA. He has been the top finishing runner for Upstate in three of five meets this season and earned Second Team All-Conference accolades with a 14th place finish at the ASUN Championships on Oct. 29 with a personal-best time of 25:43.27.
Jones is a History Education major from West Columbia, S.C. with a 3.75 GPA. At the ASUN Championships, Jones led the Spartans with an eighth place finish following a personal-best time of 25:35.56 as he also earned Second Team All-Conference honors.
Stetson's Joe Beery was named the ASUN Men's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
The All-Academic Team recognizes student-athletes who excel both on the field and in the classroom. All the members of the team boast a 3.30 cumulative grade point average or better and participated in at least half of their team's events.
Upstate will compete in the NCAA Southeast Regional on Friday. The women's race begins at 11 a.m. followed by the men's race at Noon.
