Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's basketball team begins a three-game homestand Sunday afternoon as the Spartans host the Jacksonville State Gamecocks at 3 p.m. from the Hodge Center. Upstate then turns around on Tuesday evening to face the Florida College Falcons at 7 p.m.
The Spartans saw their three-game winning streak end on Thursday with a 78-61 loss on the road at Alabama. Malik Moore scored a team-high 14 points to lead Upstate offensively, and was joined in double-figures by Mike Cunningham (13), Michael Buchanan (10) and Philip Whittington (10). Moore and Buchanan both finished a combined three rebounds shy of compiling double-doubles as Buchanan pulled down a team-high nine and Moore added eight. Six of Buchanan's nine rebounds came on the offensive end of the court.
The Spartans finished the game shooting 34.4 percent (21-of-61) as a team.
Buchanan leads four Upstate players in scoring this season with a double-double of 14.2 points and 10.2 rebounds per game. Along with Buchanan, Cunningham contributes 13.2 points per game, Deion Holmes 11.3 and Moore 11.1. Josh Cuthbertson also dishes out a team-high 4.6 assists per contest and Philip Whittington has compiled 18 total blocks for a 1.1 blocks per game average.
