Culler Posts Top Individual Finish for Upstate at Eagle Invitational

Estero, Fla. – Payton Culler had a final round 79 to finish in a tie for 56th place and lead the USC Upstate women's golf team on Sunday during the final round of the Eagle Invitational from Stoneybrook Country Club.
As a team, Upstate cut nine strokes off its score from Saturday with a 323 for its best overall round on the weekend. The Spartans finished in 15th place with a three-day score of 984 (329-332-323).
Mercer won the Eagle Invitational by nine strokes over second place Toledo at 894 (301-293-300) while Payton Schanen, also of Mercer, won the individual championship by eight strokes with a 4-under 212 (70-71-71).
Culler was one of three Upstate golfers to improve their scores by at least three strokes on Sunday along with Allea Hawkins and Allie Gennaula. The sophomore concluded the tournament with her lowest round of the three-day event and had a total score of 241 (80-82-79). Hawkins was the biggest mover of the day for the Spartans, cutting 12 strokes off her second day performance for a 74 and tying her career-low round. She finished the tournament tied for 67th at 246 (86-86-74). Gennaula placed 81st after posting her second round of 86 for the tournament and tallied a three-round 261 (86-89-86).
Sidney Dermody was the second-highest individual performer for Upstate at the Eagle Invitational as she tied for 63rd position with a third round 85 and finished at 245 (77-83-85) for the weekend. Malika Allie carded a final round 85 and was 79th in the individual standings with a total score of 253 (87-81-85).
The Spartans travel to Kiawah Island, S.C. Feb. 28-29 for the Kiawah Island Classic at Osprey Point Golf Course.
