
Upstate Completes First Day of Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Spring Classic

Kiawah Island, S.C. – Malika Allie and Sidney Dermody both carded rounds of 82 to lead the USC Upstate women's golf team after day one of the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Spring Classic Sunday from the Osprey Point Golf Club.
Upstate currently sits in 38th place after turning in a first round score of 331. A total of seven strokes separate the Spartans from fellow A-Sun member Lipscomb in 33rd position.
Allie and Dermody are tied after their opening rounds of 82 as all five Upstate golfers are within two strokes of each other. Payton Culler sits seven spots behind Allie and Dermody after her first round 83. The Spartans also counted rounds from Allie Gennaula and Allea Hawkins who both posted scores of 84.
Chattanooga leads the team standings after the first day with a total score of 5-under 283. Emily McLennan of Chattanooga and Coastal Carolina's Malene Krolboll Hansen are tied atop the leaderboard after their opening round 68 (-4).
Day two of the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Spring Classic will tee off at 9:15 a.m. Monday morning.
