New Orleans, La. – The USC Upstate men's and women's cross country teams have earned All-Academic Team accolades from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross County Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), it was announced recently.
The men's team earned the award for the second consecutive season with a team grade-point average of 3.28. Upstate's women's team finished the fall semester with a team grade-point average of 3.30, earning All-Academic Team honors for the first time since the 2013 season.
"The men and women did a great job of focusing on their classes last semester," said associate head coach Carson Blackwelder. We made it a goal to have above a 3.0 during the fall.
The Upstate men claimed the team title at the Eye Opener Invitational in September and a second place result at the Winthrop/adidas Invitational. Griffin Eubanks earned first team All-Atlantic Sun honors and was the individual winner at the Eye Opener Invitational. Eubanks became the first Spartan to earn first team honors since 2012 and one of just three runners in program history to earn All-Conference honors multiple times.
The women's team won the Eye Opener Invitational and had several runners achieve new personal bests this season.
Overall, 206 women's and 172 men's teams earned All-Academic Team honors. Programs must have compiled a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher to be eligible for the award.
