
Culler Leads Upstate after Second Round of Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Spring Classic

Kiawah Island, S.C. – Payton Culler was one of two USC Upstate women's golfers to improve off her opening day score as she fired a second round 79 to lead the Spartans on Tuesday at the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Spring Classic from the Osprey Point and Oak Point Golf Clubs.
As a team, Upstate moved up one spot in the team standings after shooting a 329 in the second round and currently sit 37th with a score of 660. Culler led the way for the Spartans following her 79 and cut three strokes off her score from Sunday. Allea Hawkins also moved up in the individual standings as she posted a round 82 and sits four strokes back of Culler.
Hawkins and Malika Allie are tied after Allie turned in a round of 84 on Tuesday. Both Hawkins and Allie have compiled two round scores of 166. Allie Gennaula posted her second straight 84 of the tournament and enters the final round sitting at 168. Sidney Dermody rounded out the day for Upstate with an 86 and is even with Gennaula.
Host College of Charleston and Coastal Carolina enter the final day of competition tied atop the team leaderboard with two-round scores of 589. On the individual side, Troy's Fatima Cano holds a one stroke lead over Heather Munro of Elon with a 3-under 141.
The Spartans will compete for the Flight Championship and tee off the final round of the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Spring Classic Tuesday morning at 8:45 a.m. with a shotgun start at Oak Point Golf Club.
