
Upstate Shoots Lowest Round of Spring on Final Day of Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Spring Classic

Kiawah Island, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's golf team fired its lowest round of the spring on Tuesday after shooting a 318 and finished the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Spring Classic in 36th place from the Oak Point Golf Club.
The 318 carded by Upstate highlighted a day that saw it cut 11 strokes off its score from the second day and had three players shoot their lowest rounds of the tournament. The Spartans finished with a team score of 978 (331-329-318).
Allie Gennaula posted the lowest round of her career on Tuesday with a 79 and tied with Sidney Dermody in the individual standings at 247. Dermody had the biggest score improvement from Monday by seven strokes after also shooting a 79.
Payton Culler led Upstate with a three-day score of 242 following her third round 80. Malika Allie matched Culler's 80 and finished four strokes back at 246. Allea Hawkins concluded the tournament for the Spartans with an 84 and compiled a 250 score over the three rounds.
Coastal Carolina won the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Spring Classic by eight strokes after shooting an 871. Emily McLennan of Chattanooga and Troy's Fatima Cano earned individual medalist honors with a 6-under 210.
Upstate is back in action Mar. 7-9 at the Seminole State Spring Break from Lake Mary, Fla. and the Timicuan Golf Club.
