
Upstate Finishes First Day of Seminole State Spring Break in Fifth Place

Lake Mary, Fla. – Sidney Dermody tied her lowest round of the season as she fired an opening round 77 on Tuesday and is currently tied for sixth place to lead the USC Upstate women's golf team after the first day of the Seminole State Spring Break from the par-72, 6,152-yard Timacuan Golf and Country Club.
Dermody is five strokes back of day one leader Josefine Garton of host Seminole State and is tied with Florida Atlantic's Heather Netti at 5-over par. The sophomore is one of two Spartans in the top 15 of the individual standings along with Payton Culler. Culler is one of six players tied for 15th place after shooting an 81.
Upstate also counted scores from Malika Allie, Kinsey Soniat, Allie Gennaula and Allea Hawkins. Allie sits tied for the 25th position with her opening day 84, while the trio of Soniat, Gennaula and Hawkins are within two strokes of each other. Soniat began play on Tuesday with an 86 and is alone in 32nd place. Gennaula (87) and Hawkins (88) rounded out the day as both are tied for 33rd and 36th places, respectively.
As a team, the Spartans are in fifth place with a total score of 329. Seminole State and Florida Atlantic are tied for the tournament lead as both teams carded a 311 in the first round.
