Upstate Finishes First Day of Low Country Intercollegiate in 17th Place

Hilton Head, S.C. – Payton Culler fired an opening round 78 to lead the USC Upstate women's golf team on Saturday during the first day of the Low Country Intercollegiate from the par-72, 5,922-yard Moss Creek Golf Club – South Course.
Upstate finished day one in 17th place with a 335, and is seven strokes back of Navy and High Point who are tied for 15th.
Culler currently sits just outside the top 20 of the individual standings in a tie for 24th with 11 other players. A total of three strokes separate the sophomore from the top-10 as five golfers are at 3-over 75.
Sidney Dermody and Allea Hawkins are both within one stroke of each other as Dermody is tied for 64th position and Hawkins 68th. Dermody carded a first round 83 on Saturday while Hawkins posted a score of 84. Malika Allie and Allie Gennaula rounded out the day for the Spartans in 86th and 90th place, respectively. Allie ended her first round with a 90 to sit tied for 86th and Gennaula is by herself in 90th position after shooting a 94.
Chattanooga leads the Low Country Intercollegiate after the first round with a team score of 302, sitting two strokes ahead of second-place Bethune-Cookman.
Alex Liu of William & Mary holds a one stroke lead over Chattanooga's Cristina Perez and Appalachian State's Joliana Elias at even-par 72.
The final round of the Low Country Intercollegiate will tee off Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m.
