
Simonetti Voted to A-Sun All-Academic Team

Macon, Ga. – USC Upstate senior men's tennis player Ramon Simonetti was recognized by the Atlantic Sun Conference Tuesday afternoon as he was selected to the All-Academic Team for his performance on the court and in the classroom.
Simonetti helped lead the Spartans to a 7-13 overall record in the regular season and 3-3 conference mark playing primarily at the number one singles and doubles position.
The Passo Fundo, Brazil native went 8-6 in singles competition with all eight victories coming at the number spot. He posted a 5-1 conference record and finished the regular season on a four-match winning streak. Simonetti went 7-3 in singles play over his final ten matches. He earned conference victories over North Florida, Florida Gulf Coast, Lipscomb, Kennesaw State and NJIT. Simonetti concluded the year third among all conference players at number one singles in winning percentage.
In doubles action, Simonetti combined to go 7-6 also at the number one position. He teamed with Ankush Arora for a 5-4 record, including a 2-1 mark in A-Sun play, while picking up two wins with Ignacio Garrido. Simonetti and Arora secured conference wins over Lipscomb and Kennesaw State, and won against Stetson with Garrido as his teammate.
Simonetti currently has a 3.68 GPA and is majoring in exercise and sport science.
Andres Alfonzo of FGCU and Kennesaw State's Simon Pritchard shared Co-Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors.
Upstate begins its quest for an A-Sun championship Friday at 9 a.m. when the fourth-seeded Spartans face No. 5 seed Lipscomb in the conference tournament from the USC Upstate Tennis Complex.
