Upstate Finishes Ninth at Season-Opening CSU Fall Invitational

Mount Pleasant, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's golf team wrapped up play at the season-opening CSU Fall Invitational on Tuesday by finishing in ninth place after shooting a final round 303 from the par-72, 5,808-yard Rivertowne Country Club.
Upstate ended the two-day tournament with a team score of 911 after compiling rounds of 306, 302 and 303.
Weather halted the conclusion of the second round on Monday, forcing two Spartans to finish their rounds this morning. Pan Paksanont and Anna Chanthapaeng both carded scores of 72 to finish out their second rounds.
Payton Culler led Upstate with a final round 74, while Paksanont was one stroke behind at 75. Sidney Dermody and Allea Hawkins each had rounds of 77, and Chanthapaeng rounded out play for the Spartans with an 82.
Paksanont led Upstate on the leaderboard as the freshman finished tied for 11th place with a combined score of 221 (74-72-75) followed by Culler who tied for 27th at 227 (76-77-74). Dermody was the third highest Spartan after tying for 39th place with a 233 (75-81-77) and Chanthapaeng was four spots behind her in a tie for 43rd at 235 (81-72-82). Hawkins was 48th after shooting a total score of 243 (83-83-77).
College of Charleston won the CSU Fall Invitational by two strokes over host Charleston Southern with a team score of 869. Individually, College of Charleston's Laura Fuenfstueck also held off Shelby Thompson of Charleston Southern by one stroke with a 3-under 213.
Upstate returns to the course Sept. 26-27 at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate in Greenville, N.C.
