
Spartans Return to Action at Winthrop Invitational

Spartanburg, S.C. – After a two week break the USC Upstate cross country teams will return to the course on Saturday morning as they compete in the 33rd annual Winthrop Invitational held at the Winthrop Farm Course.
The men's 8k race will begin at 9 a.m. followed by the women's race at 10 a.m. The top two teams and top 10 individual finishers will receive awards. Admission to the event is free.
The Spartans are one of 20 schools competing on Saturday including Winthrop, Presbyterian College and South Carolina (women only) in the Gold (Division I) category. The Garnet division (non-Division I) consists of Allen, Belmont Abbey, Benedict, Brevard, Catawba, Claflin, Columbia College, Emmanuel, Johnson C. Smith, Limestone, Morehouse, Morris, Newberry, Paine, USC-Beaufort and Wingate.
Upstate opened the season at the Eye Opener Invitational in Spartanburg on Sept. 2. Theodore Kountourogiannis scored his third career top-10 finish as he crossed the finish line in 10th place. Seven Upstate runners finished with a new personal-best time. The men's team finished in third place while the women scored a fifth place finish.
Upstate will return to Milliken Research Center on Saturday, Oct. 1 as it hosts the Upstate Invitational.
