
Holmes, Buchanan Named Preseason All-Conference by College Sports Madness

Spartanburg, S.C. – USC Upstate men's basketball players Deion Holmes and Michael Buchanan were selected Third and Fourth Team ASUN Preseason All-Conference, respectively, by College Sports Madness, the website recently announced.
Holmes and Buchanan were both recognized last season by the conference as Buchanan garnered Second Team All-Conference accolades and Holmes was voted to the All-Freshman Team.
A rising sophomore from nearby Chesnee, Holmes led Upstate in scoring last season with 12.3 points per game, while appearing in all 32 contests with 29 starts. He finished the season fifth in the league in free throw shooting at 80.0%. Holmes recorded a team-leading 21 double-digit scoring performances led by a career-high 26 points against The Citadel. He tied Buchanan with five 20-point scoring efforts which included four straight games versus Winthrop, Georgia Southern, The Citadel and Toccoa Falls.
Buchanan, a senior from Las Vegas, Nev., became the fourth Spartan in program history last year to be named to the ASUN All-Conference Team. He appeared in 31 games with 24 starts, and ranked third in the conference in shooting (56.9%), fourth in blocks per game (1.0) and eighth in rebounds per game (6.0). Buchanan compiled five double-doubles and scored at least 20 points in five games highlighted by a career-high 31 against North Florida. He scored in double-figures 19 times, second-best on the team, and pulled down 10 or more rebounds five times capped by a career-best 14 versus Stetson.
Upstate tips off its season on Saturday, Nov. 12 with a 12 p.m. contest on the road at Georgetown.
