
Cross Country to Host Upstate Invitational on Saturday

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate cross country team will hold the second of three meets this season at the Milliken Research Center on Saturday as the Spartans host the Upstate Invitational.
The Upstate Invitational begins at 9 a.m. with the women's 5k race followed by the men's 8k race at 9:45 a.m.
"This looks like a great weekend for racing with cooler temperatures," head coach Carson Blackwelder said. "We have a lot of good teams racing and expect to see some fast times."
Upstate will be joined by ASUN members Florida Gulf Coast, Kennesaw State and Lipscomb as well as Appalachian State, The Citadel, Gardner-Webb, Georgia State (women only) and Wofford. Non-Division I schools that will compete include Anderson, Bridgewater, Columbia College (women only), Columbia International, Converse, Erskine, Limestone (women only), Newberry, Queens, USC Aiken and USC Beaufort.
At the Winthrop Invitational on Sept. 17, the Upstate men won their first team title since the 2015 Eye Opener Invitational as they won a tiebreaker over Winthrop. Alex Love led the Spartans with a third place finish as Upstate claimed five of the top 10 positions. The Spartans clinched the tiebreaker thanks to having a higher finishing sixth runner. On the women's side, Leah Jostes was the top finishing runner for the second consecutive meet. Love was named the ASUN men's runner of the week while Jostes claimed women's runner of the week honors that was announced on Sept. 21.
The Spartans will return to action on Friday, Oct. 14 at the HPU Vert XC Invitational in Kernersville, N.C. at 4:30 p.m.
