
Upstate Set to Compete at ITA Carolina Regional

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team is scheduled to play in its fourth event of the fall this weekend when the Spartans travel to Cary, N.C. and compete in the ITA Carolina Regional from Cary Tennis Park.
The tournament begins on Friday, Oct. 13 with the singles opening round and singles round of 64 before concluding on Tuesday, Oct. 17 with the finals of both the singles and doubles brackets.
In the singles portion of the competition, Upstate has four players competing in Felix Ewers, Ankush Arora, Ignacio Garrido and Fernando Bernardes. Ewers begins the tournament on Friday at 8 a.m. against Gonzalo Achondo of Coastal Carolina, while Arora and Garrido will play at 9:30 a.m. Arora is facing East Carolina's Freddie McGeehan while Garrido will play Augustin Savarino of UNC Wilmington. Bernardes is scheduled to face Michael Morphy of UNC Wilmington at 12:30 p.m.
Competition in the doubles bracket is set to begin on Saturday with the rounds of 64 and 32.
Garrido highlighted play for the Spartans last weekend at the Mercer Gridiron Classic in Macon, Ga. The senior advanced to the finals of the Jets Singles Division in a rain-shortened tournament and picked up four of Upstate's nine combined victories in both singles and doubles play. Ewers and Arora each captured a match in singles competition, while Ewers and Garrido advanced to the semifinals in doubles play.
The Spartans close out their fall season on Nov. 3-5 at the UNCW Challenge in Wilmington, N.C.
