
Chanthaphaeng Cards Low Round for Upstate on Final Day of Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Spring Classic

Kiawah Island, S.C. – Anna Chanthaphaeng had a final round 76 to lead the USC Upstate women's golf team to a 25th place finish at the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Spring Classic on Tuesday from the par 72, 5941-yard Oak Point Golf Club.
Upstate finished its final round by carding a 310 and placed third in the flight championship five strokes back of first place William & Mary. The Spartans concluded play at the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Spring Classic with a combined score of 929 (313-306-310).
Chanthaphaeng was one of four Spartans to post a round in the 70's on Tuesday along with Pan Paksanont, Sidney Dermody and Caroline Heustess. Chanthaphaeng posted the top individual performance for Upstate at the three-day event, finishing in a tie for 60th at 227 (78-73-76). Pakasanont was just one stroke behind Chanthaphaeng with a 228 (75-76-77) to place in a tie for 66th position following her final round 77. Dermody had her lowest round of the tournament with a 78 while Heustess also collected her lowest score of 79.
Payton Culler was the third-highest finisher for the Spartans, tied for 95th place, after having a final round 81 to give her a total score at the tournament of 231 (76-74-81). Dermody and Heustess rounded out play for Upstate tied for 189th and 210th places, respectively. Dermody combined for a three-round score of 245 (84-83-78) and Heustess a 251 (87-85-79).
Coastal Carolina won the team championship of the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Spring Classic by one stroke over College of Charleston at 6-over 870. College of Charleston's Laura Fuenfstueck took home individual medalist honors with an 8-under score of 208.

- Chanthaphaeng wrapped up play at the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Spring Classic tied for third among the field in pars with 40, finishing just three back of leader Haley Harrington of Samford.
- Heustess posted her first career round in the 70's on Tuesday after carding her score of 79.
- Upstate recorded a total of 21 birdies at the tournament led by five each from Culler and Heustess.
- The 25th place performance was the best for the Spartans at the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Spring Classic since a 28th place finish during the 2013-14 season.
- Upstate exits its first event of the spring with a team stroke average of 312.12 and is nearly 10 strokes ahead of breaking the school single-season record of 321.42 set during the 2014-15 campaign.
- The Spartans travel to Daytona Beach, Fla. Mar. 9-10 to compete in the Lady EagleCat Invitational from LPGA International.
