
Upstate Travels to Kennesaw State on Wednesday for ASUN Opener

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team begins the ASUN portion of its schedule on Wednesday afternoon when the Spartans head to Kennesaw State to face the Owls at 2 p.m. from the Betty Siegel Tennis Courts.
Upstate posted a 1-1 record last week after picking up a home win over Texas Rio Grande Valley before falling on the road at Davidson. The Spartans defeated Texas Rio Grande Valley 4-3 on Mar. 16 and fell 5-2 at Davidson on Mar. 17.
In the win over Texas Rio Grande Valley, Upstate dropped the doubles point before winning four singles matches from Felix Ewers, Lenhard Haupt, Francisco Neto and Ignacio Garrido. Garrido also earned a singles win at Davidson along with Ankush Arora.
Garrido leads the Spartans in singles competition this season with eight victories playing primarily at No. 6 singles. In doubles play, Garrido and Fernando Bernardes are 6-5 highlighted by four wins coming at No. 2 doubles.
Kennesaw State currently sits at 8-5 on the season after defeating Texas Rio Grande Valley 6-1 last Friday. The Owls also have wins this season over Presbyterian College, Alabama A&M, Detroit, Bethune-Cookman, Jacksonville State, Alabama State and Belmont.
Upstate defeated Kennesaw State 5-2 last year in Spartanburg as Haupt and Garrido both picked up singles victories.
