
Upstate Continues Conference Play Saturday with Lipscomb

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team remains in conference play on Saturday afternoon as the Spartans return home to host the Lipscomb Bisons at 2 p.m. from the USC Upstate Tennis Complex.
Upstate (4-11, 0-1) opened its conference season on the road Wednesday by dropping a 5-2 decision at Kennesaw State. The Spartans earned two singles victories against the Owls at the No. 2 and No. 5 positions. Lenhard Haupt picked up a straight set victory at No. 2 singles while Ignacio Garrido won his fourth straight match at No. 5 in three sets. In doubles play, Haupt and Felix Ewers were tied 5-5 in their No. 2 match but the contest went unfinished.
Garrido leads Upstate in singles competition this season with nine victories playing primarily at No. 6 singles. Garrido and Fernando Bernardes have six wins in doubles play highlighted by four coming at No. 2 doubles.
Lipscomb currently sits at 5-7 overall and 1-0 in the ASUN after opening conference play on Thursday with a 6-1 victory at NJIT. Alejandro Manzanares leads the Bisons in singles play with an 8-4 record highlighted by three wins at the No. 3 position. In doubles play, Thais Minet and George Wong are 4-1 at No. 3.
The Spartans swept the season series from Lipscomb last year by winning two matches. Upstate topped the Bisons 6-1 in Nashville and then earned a 4-1 win during the opening match of the ASUN Tournament in Spartanburg.
The Spartans remain at home on Thursday, March 30 when they host Florida Gulf Coast at 6 p.m.
