
Upstate Closes Regular Season on Saturday Afternoon Hosting NJIT

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team concludes its regular season on Saturday afternoon when it welcomes the NJIT Highlanders to town for a 2 p.m. conference match at the USC Upstate Tennis Complex.
Upstate heads into the regular season finale with a 5-15 record and is 1-4 in league play.
The Spartans finished its road schedule on April 8 with a 4-3 loss at Stetson. Upstate captured the doubles point following wins in the No. 1 and No. 3 matches, and Fernando Bernardes and Francisco Neto both picked up singles victories at No. 4 and No. 6.
Ignacio Garrido leads Upstate this season in singles competition with an 11-8 record while Neto has contributed a 10-9 mark. Garrido and Bernardes have teamed up for nine wins in doubles play highlighted by four each at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
NJIT currently sits at 7-12 overall and 1-4 in the conference. The Highlanders are led in singles play by Aleksa Petrovic and Richard Rangga with 15 wins apiece, while Petrovic and Jan Cimrman have won 10 doubles matches on the season. NJIT is under the direction of second-year head coach Ira Miller.
The 2017 ASUN Men's Tennis Championship is being held April 21-23 at the FGCU Tennis Complex in Fort Myers, Fla.
