Bulldogs Use Seventh Inning Runs to Defeat Upstate

Asheville, N.C. – The UNC Asheville Bulldogs erased a 4-2 USC Upstate lead thanks to a five-run seventh inning as they defeated the Spartans 8-4 at Greenwood Field on Tuesday night.
UNC Asheville improves to 15-21 while Upstate drops to 16-23.
Scoring Breakdown
- Top 1st – Upstate got on the board as a Russell Schwertfeger single scored Charlie Carpenter.
- Top 2nd – Pat Raiff led off the inning with a single and scored following a Devon Ortiz single.
- Top 4th – The Spartans scored a run on a passed ball and a Brendan Brundage sacrifice fly.
- Bottom 4th – UNC Asheville plated runs on a Kyle Carruthers single and a Joe Gruszka double.
- Bottom 7th – The Bulldogs scored a run on a bases-loaded walk, a wild pitch, a two-run single by Carmine Pagano and a Carruthers single.
- Bottom 8th – Brandon Lankford led off the inning with a solo home run.
