Upstate Continues Fall Season this Weekend at Davidson Invitational

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team resumes its fall campaign this weekend when it travels to Davidson, N.C. for the Davidson Invitational held at the Davidson Tennis Courts.
Upstate will be competing at the Davidson Invitational along with Davidson, UNC Asheville, Campbell, Gardner-Webb and Queens. The Spartans are scheduled to play in three doubles matches on Friday. Saturday will consist of two singles matches with Sunday being a mixture of singles and doubles.
Tournament play begins on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. with doubles action. The schedule for Saturday begins at 9 a.m. and runs until 2 p.m. with the last singles match starting then. The invitational wraps up on Sunday starting at 10 a.m. and concluding with a final doubles match at 1 p.m. The Davidson Invitational will be a flighted individual format with eight singles flights and four doubles flights.
The tournament is a points system, with points being determined based on position. The No. 1 singles position is worth 16 points and going two points down at each position to No. 8, which is worth two points. The top doubles spot is worth eight points, then going down to No. 4, which is worth two.
Upstate is playing its first team tournament since opening the fall Sept. 8-10 hosting the USC Upstate Invitational. Ankush Arora advanced to the finals of the Green Singles bracket and highlighted a weekend that saw the Spartans register eight victories.
Last weekend, Felix Ewers and Ignacio Garrido participated at the Elon Fall Invitational in Elon, N.C. Both players recorded one singles victory each as Ewers competed in the Maroon Singles bracket and Garrido the Gold Singles bracket.
Upstate is back in action Oct. 6-8 at the Mercer Gridiron Classic in Macon, Ga.
