Spartans Looking to Run Wild at Upstate Invite

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The USC Upstate cross country programs will be racing in their third meet of the season on Saturday morning at the Milliken Research Park.

USC Upstate will be racing against 14 other schools, Belmont Abbey, Claflin, Cleveland CC, Columbia (S.C.), Converse, Lander, Limestone, Lincoln Memorial, Newberry, USC Aiken, Southern Wesleyan, Tennessee Tech, Winthrop and Wofford.

In the second race of the season the women's team finished third overall and junior Mia Davis (Fort Mill, S.C.) clocked in a new personal best in the five kilometer race. The junior finished the 5k event in 19:37.0 to finish in 15th place overall. At the Eye Opener Invitational the women's team had four runners finish inside the top-25 and another two runners that raced unattached finish in the top-20.

On the Men's side of the race the Spartans finished in second place behind Furman at the Eye Opener event. Jonathan Johnson (New Bern, N.C.) recorded his first top-10 finish of his career and won Big South runner of the week the following week for his efforts. The men's team had six runners total that finished the race inside the top-25.

The Upstate Invite will begin with the women's 5-kilometer race at 9:00 a.m. at the Milliken Research Park, the men's 8-kilometer will follow at the conclusion of the women's race. For more information on the USC Upstate cross country programs log onto www.upstatespartans.com.
