
Men's Tennis Preview: Longwood

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team closes out its regular season on Thursday evening when it hosts the Longwood Lancers on Senior Day at 6:30 p.m. from the USC Upstate Tennis Complex.
USC Upstate is holding its Senior Day festivities at 3:45 p.m. prior to the women's match as it will honor Ankush Arora.
The Spartans (2-15, 1-6 Big South) picked up their first conference win of the season on Sunday with a 6-1 win at home over Hampton. USC Upstate captured the doubles point with wins from Arora/Fernando Bernardes at No. 1 and Samuel Schiano/Frederick Sydow at No. 3. The Spartans then received singles wins from Arora at No. 1, Bernardes at No. 3, Luka Eble at No. 4, Sydow at No. 5 and Tom Russwurm at No. 6 to record the 6-1 victory.
Arora and Bernardes both lead USC Upstate in singles play this season with six wins each with Arora playing primarily at No. 1 and Bernardes No. 3. In doubles competition, Arora and Bernardes have combined for a 5-2 record, including a 4-1 mark in conference play, at No. 1.
Longwood (11-7, 1-4 Big South) is coming off a 7-0 victory at Virginia State on Sunday and faces Hampton today in conference play. Guilherme Sergio leads the Lancers in singles play with a 16-2 overall record highlighted by 14 wins at No. 2. The No. 1 doubles combination of Sergio and Amadeo Blasco have a team-leading 11-3 record. Longwood is under the direction of second-year head coach Jhonnatan Medina Alvarez.
