USC Upstate Inks Alex Muehr

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – USC Upstate head men's tennis coach Tim McLane has announced the signing of Alex Muehr out of Mallorca, Spain.
"We're very happy to have Alex joining us for the upcoming season," McLane said. "He's a guy who is a hard worker with a great attitude. During his time at the Rafael Nadal Academy, he's been training with some high level players and coaches. With his work ethic and athleticism, Alex has a whole bunch of upside to his game and being in a college environment is going to really benefit him. Alex is also a good student, which is always something we look for in all our recruits."
A 2019 graduate of the Rafael Nadal Academy, Muehr currently has a Universal Tennis Ranking (UTR) of 9.54 in singles competition and 10.00 in doubles competition. Currently Muehr is ranked 2,167 in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Juniors World Rankings. Muehr has climbed as high as 1,556 during his prep career.
This past June, Muehr reached the singles round of 16 in the ITF Grade 5 Cyprus tournament. In May of 2018 he recorded a Quarterfinals appearance in singles competition in the same tournament. In February of 2019, Muehr reached the doubles Quarterfinals round in the ITF Grade 5 Israel Tournament and in November of 2018 he reached the doubles round of 16 at the ITF Grade 5 Paraguay Tournament.
Muehr will join the rest of the USC Upstate men's tennis team this coming fall as they begin preparations for the 2019-20 tennis season.
