DALLAS, Texas. – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association 23rd Division I All-America baseball squads have been announced, and USC Upstate right-handed pitcher Jordan Marks has been named to the NCBWA Division I All-America third team.
Marks is the first Spartan to earn All-America recognition since Devon Ortiz in 2016, and the first to earn the honors from the NCBWA since Chad Sobotka in 2012.
The Friday night ace was named the Big South Pitcher and Scholar-Athlete of the Year on the back end of a record-breaking season. The right-hander from Bright's Grove, Ontario shattered three school records on the year and became the first-ever Spartan to be named to the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List. Marks boasted the best ERA in the league with a 2.54 and led the league in wins, strikeout-to-walk ratio, and WHIP. The four-time Big South Pitcher of the Week threw a conference-high 95.2 innings and allowed a league-low 32 runs on the year.
On May 7 at High Point, Marks broke the school record for strikeouts and wins in a single season, and he ended the regular season with 101 strikeouts and 10 wins. With the win at UNC Asheville on May 20, Marks also became the all-time wins leader in Upstate's program history with 21 career wins. He threw his first-career complete game shutout on April 16 at Charleston Southern and struck out nine while allowing just four singles in the process.
Marks was also recently honored as a member of the ABCA/Rawlings Atlantic All-Region Second Team.
NCBWA membership includes writers, broadcasters and publicists. Designed to promote and publicize college baseball, it is the sport's only college media-related organization, founded in 1962.
